6 ingenious kitchen tips

Planning a new kitchen? Here are some key points to think about before making a start.

Today’s modern kitchens are the epicentre of the home; a place where families gather and guests come to enjoy food and good times.

As the heart of the home, the kitchen needs to be an enjoyable space, as well as practical and functional. There are numerous factors to consider, from layout and storage to ventilation and décor – and so it’s a good idea to work with a professional company to guide you through your options.

The first thing to look at is the layout. There are several tried-and-tested configurations that will help you decide which best suits the size and shape of your space, as well as what fits your functional needs.

Single-line kitchen

The single-line formation, where cabinets and worktops are set out in one single straight line, is a great choice if you have limited space.

Parallel kitchen

If you have extra room, you can add in an island, or alternatively, another single straight line opposite to form a parallel layout for additional surfaces and storage.

L-shaped kitchen

The L-shaped layout makes use of corner spaces, and gives room for the likes of a dining table or island.

U-shaped kitchen

If you have a large room, the U-shaped layout provides heaps of space and storage, and puts you at the centre of the space with everything within reach.

Lighting

Try to factor in as many windows as you can – natural light minimises the use of artificial lighting and saves on electricity. Plus sunlight helps to kill germs, making the environment more hygienic. Windows also ensure good airflow to keep the kitchen smelling fresh.

Sustainable kitchen

Also think about using sustainable materials on the likes of walls and floors, and using energy-saving appliances and lighting.

Deciding on décor can be daunting – and again, this is where working with a professional company really helps. Euro Cucina is a professional kitchen consultancy with over ten years’ experience. It offers a Made To Measure (MTM) service that covers every aspect of creating your kitchen, from advice on layout, décor and budget, to designing, building, installation and after sales follow-up.
