Matégot Trolley by Gubi

Taking the meaning of the word “wishlist” quite literally, I would love to wheel the Matégot Trolley from Gubi out when entertaining friends at home. Created by Hungarian-French material artist Mathieu Matégot and crafted in perforated sheet metal on a steel tube frame, the clean design stands the test of time and adds a contemporary twist to the traditional drinks cart.

Smaller Objects notebook by Claesson Koivisto Rune

As a firm believer in the written word – and, call me sentimental, someone who finds joy in the simple act of putting pen to paper – this notebook designed by nendo for Swedish architecture and design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune’s Smaller Objects line is impeccable. Inspired by traditional Japanese bookbinding, each page has L-shaped perforations along its edge that can be folded out to create indexes, making it a triumph in both form and function.

Spiral Stool by MisoSoupDesign

On a recent visit to Taipei to attend the Golden Pin Design Awards – celebrating design in and for Chinese-speaking communities – I had the pleasure of meeting the Japanese-Taiwanese couple behind MisoSoupDesign’s award-winning Spiral Stool. Made entirely out of cardboard, the innovative, origami-inspired seat arrives as a flat pack and is easily assembled at home, no glue necessary. Structurally sound – it can take up to 100kg weight – environmentally friendly and with a simple yet striking symmetry, I could do with a couple to furnish my flat.

Amina Patchwork slides by Acne Studios

I was talked out of buying Acne Studios’ Amina Patchwork slides this time last year and have regretted it ever since. So, this Christmas, I am treating myself to the new iteration in statement yellow leopard-print. They might not be the most seasonally appropriate footwear, but I know I’ll save myself reticent-buyer’s remorse.

JIA Inc steamer set

To help facilitate one of my New Year’s resolutions – which, as it so often is, will be to eat out less – I’ve got my eye on JIA Inc’s stunning steamer set, which brings traditional cooking methods into the design realm. Crafted from fireproof ceramic with a cedar wood and terracotta steamer basket, this pot truly makes cooking look good.

Visiting Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur

I spent the 2015 festive period on an almost-deserted beach in south Goa reunited with friends from across the globe, and have been planning my return to the Indian subcontinent ever since. This year, I’m hoping to make it to the resplendent Taj Lake Palace hotel in Udaipur, a seemingly floating vision in white marble, rich silks and ornate wood carvings that takes indulgence very seriously.
