We talk to the Li-Ann Scott, the founder of the child-focused bed linen line.
When Melbourne mum Li-Ann Scott was in search of bedding for her twin boys, she found that there was a dearth of gender-neutral, playful prints that would age with her kids. Not one to settle for second best, the graphic designer and former architect decided to do something about it, and Sack Me! was born.
We caught up with Li-Ann when she was in town to celebrate the launch of her new collection at iDecorate’s Times Square store and talked playful prints, the Aussie aesthetic and why colour is an interior’s best friend.
What’s in a name – why Sack Me!?
In our home, we often refer to the bed as the sack. When it comes to the children’s bedtime, we’ll joke, “he’s tired, can someone sack him” (put him to bed) and so the name transpired from there. If nothing else, we hope it’s memorable!
Your designs are inherently fun and whimsical – what inspires you?
I find inspiration in the most abstract forms, from travel and fashion to the arts, but most importantly from my children and our day-to-day adventures – even trips to the supermarket. Seeing the world through their eyes has been a humbling experience. I take less for granted and often discover new ways of looking at everyday objects.
Each design stems from a personal experience, like the time I got tired of negotiating with my kids on how often they are allowed to have ice cream. I thought, “wouldn’t it be funny to create this range so they can have it every single night (except the nights it’s in the wash!)”

A lot of Aussie brands embody the same sense of playfulness. Why do you think this is?
We have always been a little different to the rest of the world, be it in fashion or homeware, perhaps given our isolated geographical location. We are also influenced by our relaxed lifestyle, which leads to us being a bit bolder in pushing boundaries.
Who does the prints and illustrations for Sack Me!?
I do all the prints and illustrations myself. I have a sketchbook full of doodles, tear sheets, and random goodness. There’s usually a gut feeling for a theme or a story thrown into the mix. I try to ensure that I always stay relevant to my target audience (the kids). I’m certainly not governed by trends. I love to zig when everyone zags!
Sack Me!’s fabrics are super soft. What are they made of?
The entire range is Oeko-tex certified: free from harmful substances, 300 thread count and100% cotton sateen. Our weave count is 60*40, which means that the yarns are woven a lot tighter together to withstand the many loads of washing it will no doubt endure. Our sheets will go the distance!

What is your number one rule when it comes to decorating your own home?
Colour is your friend! Do not be afraid to use it and layer it on.
Sack Me! began as a brand for kids. Do you envisage it becoming a brand for adults too?
Absolutely! There has been a demand for larger sizes. Our quality is amazing and, to be honest, it wasn’t fair that the kids got to enjoy all that comfort so I super-sized it for adults too.
What can we expect next from Sack Me!?
We’re in the final stages of sampling our baby comforters, muslin wraps, some fun ottomans as soft furnishing and soft toys. Definitely watch this space.
