Down the terracotta-tiled driveway, through the gilded wrought-iron gate, and into a grassy courtyard brimming with flowering plants and sun-drenched loungers facing the sea lies this spacious beachside villa, which belongs to the CEO of a luxury fashion brand. Though the home may be large by Hong Kong standards for just one person, it’s exactly the relaxing refuge the busy executive needs to get away from long days at the office.
The picturesque garden, overflowing with lush foliage and cascading bougainvillea, overlooks Stanley Beach; from here, one has direct access to the shore via a short flight of steps. Though less than an hour from Hong Kong’s city centre, the home feels far removed from the hectic urban pace; its white walls and archways also conjure a Mediterranean mood. The interiors capture barefoot luxury at its finest, with whitewashed ash-wood flooring that runs along the ground and the uppermost floors of the home, paired with a clean white-on-white palette intermixed with careful dashes of blue, grey, and other earth tones.
“He wanted it to feel beachy the minute you walked in, because it’s so close to the beach. It’s an oasis away from Hong Kong, showing you don’t have to go to Thailand – you can relax right here,” says designer Monique McLintock of McLintock Wong Designs, who transformed the once-dilapidated interiors into the laid-back yet luxurious abode.
