Architect and designer Laura Gonzalez designed a chic apartment filled with jewel tones and metallics.
Known for her transformations of Parisian nightspots, hotels, restaurants and shops, as well as her innovative revamps of private residences, architect and interior designer Laura Gonzalez is a master in blending old and new harmoniously. She particularly enjoys infusing glamour into a space through a tantalising combination of fabric, texture and colour.
For this chic two-bedroom apartment belonging to a young French couple – a 2,700sqft Parisian apartment with high ceilings, Versailles parquet flooring and wood-panelled walls – Laura’s clever coordinating and bursts of brilliant hues have resulted in calm fluidity with a dash of dazzle. From the beautiful paint effect on the walls in the hallway to the stunning plumage of a bird depicted in a painting in the master bedroom and the striking vintage fabric on the armchairs in the living room, she has used turquoise as a unifying theme.
“I like wallpapers, antiques, ceramics, as well as modern furniture,” Laura explains. “I usually employ precious materials such as brass and marble, then mix them with warmer materials such as wood. Also, I like combining art pieces with antique furniture.” Guided by the principles of timeless elegance, Laura also has a penchant of reviving older furniture and juxtaposing pieces in a more contemporary style, creating a subtle balance.
