Recreate happy hour at home in five easy steps.
A drink is always in order whether it’s a special occasion or simply the end of a grueling day at work. Bar carts, drink trolleys and spirits cabinets have been all the rage for a while now, and there’s no sign of their appeal abating. It’s not surprising – we’ve all become more discerning about what we drink (niche gins and rare whiskeys anyone?) and we’re proud to display our prized spirits at home.
Just as we carefully showcase beautiful tomes on our shelf, there’s an art to prepping a bar cart in time for happy hour (and that cocktail party of yours). First, you need to stock up on some basics. Award-winning mixologist Antonio Lai—the genius behind Vea, Quinary and more, shares the building blocks for your home bar:
• Three of your favourite spirits
• Vermouth (sweet and dry)
• A bowl of fresh citrus
• Shot glasses (which can also be used as measuring tools)
• Cocktail shaker and long spoon
• Champagne
• Sugar (white and brown)
Next comes the fun part – styling it to make sure it’s ready for entertaining. Watch below to see how this one from Indigo Living goes from bare to beautiful:
A set of glasses, a pot of flowers or greenery and practical items like a towel help you serve up drinks in style. When the party is over, your bar cart can also become an alternative storage for books, candles, terrariums and more. Multi-purpose furniture: I’d say cheers to that!
