Five exceptional designers reveal the destinations that inspire them.
The benefits of travel are well documented: brainpower can be boosted by new experiences and fresh horizons. Travel not only broadens your perspective, but scientific studies show it also improves your cognitive health and inspires creativity. Designers are particularly receptive to their surroundings, constantly gathering ideas and influences – often subconsciously. They may find their journeys referenced in their work, and sometimes at the core of their aesthetic or the driving force behind their latest creations.
Hong Kong’s young design star, Joyce Wang, is the creative mind behind the interiors of some of the region’s coolest restaurants, including Mott 32, Haymarket, Ammo, Isono and Vasco, as well as projects for luxury hotels including The Landmark Mandarin Oriental and The Hollywood Roosevelt. She tells us about her favourite Brazilian hotel and her intriguing discovery of Norway’s vernacular dwellings.
